Campaigners in Broomhill are celebrating after Sheffield Council dropped plans to include Brocco Bank and Clarkehouse Road in routes designated for HGVs.
Neither road is in the council’s proposed HGV network, set to be approved by the cabinet highways committee on Thursday.
Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, Lib Dem group leader and Broomhill councillor, said: “I’m pleased pressure from local residents and Liberal Democrats has forced the council to think again.
“Residential roads outside the Botanical Gardens were never suitable for big lorries.
“What’s more, air quality is a really important issue for the community and this lorry plan would have been a big step in the wrong direction.”
