Sheffield student flats evacuated after fire

A block of student flats in Sheffield have been evacuated after smoke began filling the building.

Residents at Archways student accommodation on Leadmill Road were forced to leave after a receptionist reported smoke 'everywhere' and called the fire brigade.

The students were kept out of the flats for about half and hour while firefighters investigated but have now been allowed to return.

One resident, who was moving into the flats at the time of the incident, said: "They called the fire brigade immediately who came pretty soon after with sirens blaring.

"There were two fire engines on the scene which were there for about half an hour before everyone was allowed to go back inside.

"You could smell smoke from outside the building but I couldn’t see any from where I was."
