Sheffield street lights to be fixed

Have your say

FAULTY street lights which have been shining 24 hours a day for several months on a Sheffield street are finally being fixed.

Peter Townsend, of Bents Road, Ecclesall, complained that the lights on one side of the street have been working continuously for as long as five months.

He said: “It’s a disgraceful waste of money.”

Mr Townsend has complained to Sheffield Council.

The authority said it has raised the problem with Northern Powergrid, which looks after the electricity cables in the area.

A council spokesman said that there has been a spate of separate problems involving ‘individual lights’ on the street dealt with from December onwards, which have involved faulty switches.

The latest section of faulty lights is believed to have been affected by ‘water egress’

The council spokesman said: “The faults seem to rest with Northern Powergrid and it is dealing with the problems as it is obliged to do so under guidelines.”
