The feisty forward played a major role in the Steelers two victories over Nottingham, which saw them cut Cardiff Devils’ lead at the top of the table to 11 points.

Nelson chalked up two assists at the NIC on Saturday night and then added two goals, including the game winner, and picked up one further assist on Sunday.

The 28-year-old said: “It was a great weekend all around for the guys. It’s never easy going into Nottingham and we found a way to win, then on Sunday it was a dominant performance.

This weekend Steelers are in Belfast and Cardiff and Nelson is expecting a testing time: “It is going to be two tough games for us, but we’ve had a good week of practice and we’re ready to go.

“We’re focussing on the Belfast game and then, when Sunday comes around we will be itching to get a win in Cardiff.”
