For a quarter of a century, Steeler Dan has remained quiet.

In the bedlam of Sheffield Arena ice hockey games, he always keeps schtum.

Made out of molten metal and steel girders, he finds it hard to communicate, despite his legion of adoring, young fans.

But in our video, today, speechless Dan finally speaks out.

At the Weston Park Hospital cancer-charity "Run in the Park" event at Graves Park, Sheffield, this morning, Dan spoke about why he was competing in the fund-raiser.

He said it was in memory of the much-missed Amy Usher, the 22-year-old Steelers fan who died from a form of throat cancer last year.

Amy brought sunshine to many.

So there were plenty of other people supporting the #ForAmy campaign, among the hundreds who took part.

Dan said his piece - through the part-time translator and sports editor Bob Westerdale - who was sponsored £100 to take part in the race by Steelers owner Tony Smith.

Now Dan is going back to his silent-mode, but promising to keep Amy's memory alive at the House of Steel.
