Sheffield Steelers should brace themselves for a revenge attack from Chris Lawrence today.

The champions picked up Lawrence from Coventry Blaze earlier this season but his stint ended with his release before subsequently being picked up by one of his old clubs, Nottingham Panthers.

And he will be sniping for them today in the huge Elite League clash at Sheffield Arena.

Lawrence scored four points in his first four games for Nottingham and then secured his best points tally for them with two goals and an assist against Manchester Storm last time out.

The 28-year-old claims Panthers coach Corey Neilson gets the best out of him – a phrase that made Steelers coach Paul Thompson smile when it was relayed to him.

“Chris did a great job when he was here,” Thompson said. “He was very popular and we all liked him.

“He’s scored a few points for Nottingham but if we play how we’ve been playing recently, I’m confident we’ll come out of both post-Christmas Nottingham games in the right way.”

Thompson feels the Panthers fixture is ‘a great way to get back on the horse’ after losing at home to Coventry last Sunday.

He said: “One swallow doesn’t make a summer and the defeat doesn’t mask the fact we are playing well.

“But this game should be better spectacle for the fans.

“Both teams going back and forth. It will be a more swashbuckling epic than just one team attacking and one defending.

“We are ready for the biggest weekend in British ice hockey.”
