Sheffield Steelers complete the set with import Della Rovere

Sheffield Steelers have handed a lifeline to power forward Stefan Della Rovere - the final signature to be inked into the club's 2018/19 roster.

The feisty 28-year-old Canada-born skater scored a modest 19 points for German DEL 2 side EC Kassel Huskies in 51 games last year.

It is the same club for which another new Steeler, Evan McGrath, was second top-scorer.

Unlike many of the new Steeler recruits, Della Rovere is no stranger to the Elite League – he played with Braehead Clan in the back end of the 2016/17 season, scoring 10 points in 11 League outings in Glasgow.

Della Rovere also had seven games in the NHL with St Louis Blues in 2010/11.

Sheffield coach Paul Thompson said: “We are excited to sign Stefan.

“We believe he can come in and play a power forward role for us, get on the body and create energy.

“Stefan didn’t have the best of years in Germany last year but I understand the reasons why.

“He is looking to bounce back and I believe he will create and score goals for us.

“I liked what he brought to Braehead when he joined them for the final part of the 2016/17 season.

“He will bring a feisty edge to our play.

“There is a good balance to our team. I like our line-up and can’t wait for us all to get together on the ice as soon as possible.

“It’s exciting to have 16 new players but we will have to find some chemistry quickly and use the four exhibition games coming up at iceSheffield to gel together.”a
