Goals from Squires, Hirst and Korhon punctuated a dominant first period before Hirst's second and a Bosas strike put Dogs 5-0 up before half way.

Bison mounted a comeback in the third period and a pair from ex-Edinburgh Capital Rene Jarolin helped get them back within two however Dalibor Sedlar was on top form in goal and with some committed defending in from it him, kept the Bison at bay.

Liam Charnock scored an empty net goal to seal the victory.

After seven straight wins, the second period of Sunday's game in Guildford ended the run with the Flames scoring three unanswered goals against a Sheffield side frustrated by some patchy officiating.

They didn't let their heads drop and goals from Squires and Bosas kept them in the game until the last couple of minutes but in pushing to score they let Ben Campbell in for his second goal and the Flames sixth.

That a 6-3 defeat to the Flames felt like a disappointment says a lot for the way the team has performed in the past month and with a trip to new rivals Hull on the 27th before old rivals Manchester visit on the 28th, Coach Wood will be looking to start a new winning streak.

D-man Tim Smith spoke after the win against Basingstoke;

“We were quite dominant for the first 2 periods, we kept a lot of puck possession which is something we have struggled to do at times. We controlled the game from the back. We often seem to come a little unstuck against the Bison, so it was nice to come out and play the way we did. In the third period we maybe took our foot off the gas a little and thought we had the game in the bag but we got punished early on in the period. We got a little nervous but ground out a win as a team and made it 7 in a row.

“All the teams in the EPL are used to us playing one style but this season we have a team that can actually play. We are confident, we can pass, we are a quick team and we are fit. We have a bit of everything and if we need to play tough then we can. If we need to play with more skill, patience and control then we do. We play how Woody wants us to and one of his main messages has been be patient”.
