Sheffield Stars cycle sppedway duo Adam and Niall show their class

Sheffield Stars were soundly beaten 70-108 away at Stockport in a Northern League One match, stretching the Stars losing sequence to 25 matches at first team level. Sheffield's last win being in 2005.

Adam Watson and Niall Morton each won twice to prevent an even heavier defeat.

Sheffield scorers - Adam Watson 18+1, Niall Morton 17, Ed Morton 10+1, Luke Morton 8, Laura Watson 7+1, Kielan Burton 5, Niamh Morton 4, Steven Webber 1. Adam then defeated the Jake Read (holder) to claim the Match race title and bring some joy into the Stars camp.

Sheffield won the League Two match by 105-60, a victory keeping them level on points with Astley at the top of the League Two table.

Stockport provided 11 of the 15 race winners, but were hampered by having just four riders and giving away 25 penalty points for use of an ineligible rider.

James Morris (2), Kielan Burton and Niamh Morton were the Stars race winners.

Sheffield scorers - Kielan Burton 15+1, James Morris 15+2, Laura Watson 15+1, Niamh Morton 14+1, Edward Balfour 12+4, Steven Webber 9+4.

Sheffield had further success after winning the League Three match By 28-8, a result which takes the Stars up to third in the table.

James Morris won all four of the races to score his first maximum 16-point haul. Edward Balfour scored 12, having finished second in all four races.

Sheffield were also celebrating qualification for the National rounds of the BYJL and Little League competition after a strong finish at Hull last Saturday.

Kielan Burton added the Northern BYJL GP title to his growing list of honours.

He goes into the National rounds having accumulated the maximum score in the regionals. Further GP series podiums were achieved by Charlie Priest (u-8), third (after only two meetings), Edward Balfour (u-10 - second), Logan Perkins (u-12 - third) and Jack Brownell (u-14 - third).

This Sunday Sheffield have a Yorkshire derby match at home against Hull. Racing ar Cookson Park starts at 1pm with the U13s match.
