The club co-owner, who spent time in Australia leaving colleague Damien Bates to secure riders, believes the side has a nice shape.

And he’s particularly pleased to be linking up again with Todd Kurtz, a rider he knows well from his time at the now defunct Newport Wasps.

Mole is a friend of the Kurtz family and has sponsored Todd and his brother Brady in recent seasons.

“I’m delighted with the team we have put together,” said Mole. “I like the shape and I think we can achieve big things.

“Obviously you need everything to fall in place in terms of a bit of luck and avoiding injuries, but I don’t think we could have done anything more as a club to put such an attractive team out on track.”

Mole says Kurtz has what it takes to improve his scoring power after a troubled time with Plymouth, who are set to apply to join the third tier after going bankrupt. “It must have been tough for Todd, but we’re pleased to have him at Sheffield,” he said.

“I’ve known the Kurtz family a long time but that’s not the reason we’ve brought him into the club, Damien had to agree he was worth it.

“We’ve also gone out and purchased his registration from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association who took over the Plymouth asset list when they went under. It’s an exciting time and the feedback the club have had on social media has been nothing but positive.”

Mole also says the appointment of Simon Stead as manager is a good move.

“It fits nicely for both Simon and the club,” he said. “He knows the fastest way around Owlerton and I’m sure he will be able to pass on his expertise. It’s great for Steady to remain part of the club he regards as home, he’s from Sheffield and achieved so much as a rider, I hope he can help us achieve big things now he is manager.”
