Sheffield speedway rider doesn't want to be left on his Todd

The Sheffield racer is frustrated by a lack of racing and says it leaves him at a major disadvantage when many of his rivals are competing in two leagues.

He’s hoping for a call from a Premiership club to double his meetings as he is left kicking his heels for a week if Sheffield don’t race away.

“I need more time on the bike but it’s tough,” he said.

“It’s difficult coming into a meeting when you haven’t been on the bike for a while but everyone else has been doing meetings. Of course I’d love a place in the Premiership but you can’t just walk into a team.

“You have to impress when you are out there but if your time on the bike is limited then it takes time to get back into the swing of it so you find yourself in a bit of an awkward position.

“June suddenly becomes a lot busier so this is where I need to prove myself again.”

He enjoyed an impressive win in last week’s Owlerton thriller with Glasgow and is looking for more of the same when Edinburgh visit in the Knockout Cup tomorrow.

Said Kurtz: “I needed that one heat win I got against Glasgow last week - I haven’t had a bit of fresh air out front for a while, but now I need that on a more regular basis.

“Five points isn’t what I want - I’ve got my own expectations and being at Sheffield that’s around the eight point to double figure mark. I think everything bodes well for the team. Last week we threw away a few silly points and we had a few mechanical issues, but we still came away with a win against a very strong Glasgow team.

“If you can win under those circumstances it shows you’re on the right track.

“Edinburgh will be far from easy, but if we all click on the same night then there’s no reason why we can’t turn it around to get through to the next round.”
