The former club mascot has struggled for points in the early stages of his Tigers career.

Greaves, 18, is thrilled to be riding for the team and wants to grab the opportunity with both hands.

He said: “Last week against Peterborough we had some bad luck when we were winning races and we were disappointed to only get a draw in the end.

“I was really disappointed with my own performance and I want to put things right against Scunthorpe.

“I’ve been concentrating really hard on my starts and to be fair that part had been working.

“My problem has been that I haven’t been fast enough. This is what I’m learning early on and the bike set-up, track craft all comes with experience. Especially at Owlerton you need to be fast; gating alone won’t get you anywhere if you haven’t got speed because you’ll get passed with ease. I need to get my confidence going and hopefully I can do that against Scunthorpe.

“We want to keep our unbeaten run going in the League Cup and I don’t see why we can’t do that. We beat Scunthorpe at their place so we should stand a good chance of doing the same at home but we’ll have to work hard.”

Tonight’s meeting also sees six extra races with the Tiger Cubs facing Scunthorpe Stags in a Development match over six races.

Tigers are at full strength with skipper Simon Stead racing in his second meeting since coming back from serious injuries.

SHEFFIELD: Simon Stead, Dimitri Berge, Kyle Howarth, Josh Bates, Jason Garrity, Richard Hall, Nathan Greaves.

SCUNTHORPE: Josh Auty, Zdenek Holub TBC, Alex Davies, Ryan Douglas, Nicolai Klindt, Carl Wilkinson, Josh Bailey.
