Sheffield speedway: King must be usurped

Simon Stead says Great Britain World Cup rider Danny King will be a major threat when Ipswich visit Owlerton tomorrow.

King has enjoyed an impressive spell in recent seasons and grabbed the attention of national boss Alun Rossiter to feature in the summer tournament.

He’s a heavy scorer for the Witches and Stead is relishing the prospect of rubbing shoulders with him on home shale as Tigers look to stamp their authority in their League Cup group.

“Danny is a great lad and a really good rider, especially around Sheffield, he will be their main threat,” said Stead.

“Nico Covatti likes this track as well, it’s big and fast and he will fancy his chances of scoring some god points when he comes here.

“I’m hoping I can score a lot of points and as a team we have to show the home draw with Peterborough was just a clip, nothing more than that.

“It’s a case of so far, so good for the team. We have to be happy with what we’ve done in the League Cup, to collect points on the road like we have has been awesome and if we can beat Ipswich tomorrow that should see us through to the semi-finals.

“It would also set us up nicely for the league campaign. We need to be in good shape for that and I’m sure we can be.”

Tigers are unbeaten in four meetings with Peterborough and Scunthorpe in the League Cup group and are strongly fancied for the silverware.
