Sheffield speedway: broken arm wrecks team plans for Glasgow

Sheffield head to Premier League leaders Glasgow tomorrow - and will once again be without all action star Jason Garrity who faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old missed last week’s fixtures against Redcar after aggravating an arm injury. However, the Manchester racer now looks set to be out of action for four to six weeks after discovering he has a broken forearm. Tigers joint team manager Eric Boocock said: “It’s a big blow for the team and the only facility we have available to us is rider replacement. It’s not ideal but thankfully he’s second in the averages so any four of the rest of the team can take his rides. Jason was advised to take a bit longer out but he was desperate to get back and another crash while racing for Coventry on Monday didn’t help at all. We’ve got a pretty busy month coming up as a team, starting away at Glasgow.

“Glasgow were a lot of people’s pre-season favourites alongside Somerset and so far they’re showing exactly why they were fancied for the title.

“A lot’s changed at Glasgow in the last couple of seasons and you have to give them credit for what they’re trying to do and the ambition they’ve got up there. They might be full of confidence and in good form, but we’re second in the table and we’re there on merit.

“It’s going to be a tough one and we’re going to need to be quick out of the starts if we’re to come away with a positive result.

“We all need to work together even closer as a team over these next few weeks and hopefully once Jason is ready to return, we’ll still be in a strong position in all competitions.”

Tigers racer Josh Bates is expected to make his comeback tomorrow after missing the last week through concussion sustained during last week’s home clash against Redcar.
