SHEFFIELD’S first ever female flat track roller derby team – Sheffield Steel Rollergirls – will take on Royal Windsor in their first roller derby home bout of 2013.

Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in the city centre will be the battleground for the skaters to bump and bruise their way around the flat track.

After an away win against Big Bucks High Rollers in February, the Sheffield team is now ranked 27th in Europe.

There are 70 roller derby teams in the UK, with competitors on quad skates attempting to lap members of the opposition for points.

Tickets for the event on Saturday, March 23, cost £5 in advance or £7 on the door with under 12s free.
