Retail therapy is helping thousands of shoppers to shift their holiday weight according to a new study carried out by Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre.

Staff at the centre conducted a pedometer experiment which revealed bargain hunters can burn more than 100 calories per hour.

The figures showed that a typical trip to Meadowhall could burn around 400 calories, and at the height of the January sales period, shoppers took an average of 15,000 steps whilst zig-zagging across the centre in search of the best deals.
