The owner of a shop in Sheffield has been prosecuted for selling tobacco without paying any duty on the items.

The products also had incorrect health warnings on the packaging.

Guffar Ahmed, who owns Kiosk on Wickfield Grove, Hackenthorpe, was prosecuted after Sheffield Council’s Trading Standards officers seized the tobacco following an inspection of his shop.

Ahmed admitted the offences during a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court and was fined £500 and ordered to pay costs of £478.70.

Councillor Terry Fox said: “Our Trading Standards team is cracking down on illegal tobacco. We want it off the shelves.

“People don’t know what they’re getting if they’re buying these goods, some of which can be harmful.”
