A SHEFFIELD schoolgirl’s article about the torture technique waterboarding has seen her put forward for an award.
The piece by Bethany Patrick is in the running for Amnesty International’s young human rights reporter of the year prize.
The 14-year-old pupil at Forge Valley Community School, Stannington, will now have her work judged by a panel of editors, authors and industry professionals.
She said: “The competition appealed to me as I enjoy writing, especially news articles and factual writing, and I am interested in the work Amnesty does.
“It is an honour to be long-listed, because it is important to make people aware of what is happening in the world.”
Judges who considered Bethany’s work said it ‘confidently and carefully handles a complex and controversial issue.’
The final winners will be announced in April.
