A 12-YEAR-OLD Sheffield schoolgirl has her eyes on a career in politics.
Mireille Murekatete, a pupil at Sheffield Park Academy, Manor, is one of 15 young people to sit on a new national scrutiny group launched by the British Youth Council and supported by the Department for Education.
Along with fellow NSG members, she will work with government departments and ministers to ensure young people’s views and needs are taken into account when developing policies that affect them.
Mireille said: “This experience would give me an idea of what it is like to be a politician or work for the government.
“I would be able to develop a greater understanding of how the country is run and how decisions are made.
“I would like to gain some happiness knowing that I have done something to help. Not just in my community or school but in other communities.”
