Sheffield’s famous spicy sauce has spurred on a team of big-hearted quiz fans to victory - almost three thousand miles away in Cyprus.
Staff at Henderson’s Relish in Sheffield were stunned to receive news of a quiz team named after the condiment when a clipping from a Cypriot newspaper was sent to their headquarters.
The piece said that The Cyprus Kidney Association had received a donation of 1,500 euros from a quiz team called Henderson’s Relish.
It added: “Henderson’s Relish is one of many quiz teams who get together every week at Petridios 47 Tavern (formerly Sid’s Tavern) in Petridia to enjoy a challenging evening organised by Alan and Jean Mack.
“These quizzes started back in 2008 and since thattime 75,000 euros has been donated to various good causes by the winning team on the night.”
It said Paul Skinner, who is part of the relish team, had also handed over another 600 euros which would be used for a new ECG machine for the Paphos General Hospital Renal Unit to replace one that was being borrowed.
