Sheffield’s first beer week is hailed a success

Sheffield’s first beer week is likely to make a return after drinkers enjoyed a blend of events.

Organisers are hoping any future event could become as big as those already popular in London and Norwich.

During the week beer fans learnt how to match beer with food, met brewers and attended book readings and tasting competitions.

The week, which finished on March 22, ran to coincide with the popular SIBA BeerX festival, which attracted hundreds of people to IceSheffield last Friday and Saturday.

Clare Tollick, who organised the beer week event along with Hop Hideout beer shop owner Julia Gray, said: “I hope it will come back, it’s likely we are going to do it again.

“People who went to some of the events said that it was great and there were lots of things to do and they said that we ought to do it more often.

“We are still getting feedback from the bars and pubs about what they thought but the majority of people have said that this is something which is missing in Sheffield and that they are behind it.”

National and local breweries took part in the event.
