Former home secretary and Sheffield MP David Blunkett would have made a good Prime Minister, Tony Blair has said.
The former PM praised the Brightside and Hillsborough MP - who is standing down at this year’s general election - in a special film to be shown on Monday night at 7.30pm.
Mr Blunkett started his political career at Sheffield Council, became its leader and then an MP, eventually rising to Home Secretary.
Blair told the BBC Inside Out programme: “I think David would have made a good prime minister because he was tough enough to take difficult decisions, humble enough to stay in touch with people, and determined enough to resist the pressures.
“I’ve found him an absolute joy to work with because he was very clear what he wanted to do and very determined.”
