The Stay Well This Winter roadshow will be in the city in November to give people advice and tips on looking after their health when the temperature drops.

It is part of a joint initiative by NHS England and Public Health England to help those with long-term conditions and older people to prepare for winter and ward off common winter illnesses so they do not require a visit to the hospital.

The roadshow will be stopping at Hillsborough Shopping Centre on November 14 and 15.

Leaflets will be distributed that provide information on how you and your family can stay well this winter. A nurse will also be on hand to talk to anyone who has any questions.

Dr Zak McMurray, Sheffield GP and medical director for the NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Being prepared is a key element in helping you to stay well, especially during the winter months.

“Winter can be bad for our health, particularly for older people or those with long term health conditions, but there a number of things you can do to keep you and your family well this winter.

“If you suffer from a long term health condition, are aged 65 or over, or are pregnant, get the free flu vaccine now. It’s free because you need it.

“Children aged two to seven can also get the free flu vaccine so if you are a parent please make sure you child gets it. This year it is a nasal spray vaccination. Children aged two, three and four can get it from their GP and those in school years one, two and three can receive it at school but need parental permission.”
