Sheffield road cordoned off as police investigate 'suspicious incident'

A Sheffield road was cordoned off for more than four hours today, as police investigated a 'suspicious incident'.

South Yorkshire Police were called to Cherry Tree Road, Nether Edge at just after 9.15am this morning following reports from a member of the public that an amount of blood had been found on the pavement.

The road was cordoned off until just after 2pm this afternoon as the police's Crime Scene Investigation team took evidence from the scene.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a suspicious incident, after an amount of blood was found on Cherry Tree Road."

They added: "Police cordoned off the road to take samples as a precaution.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
