The Portuguese has masterminded Wednesday’s charge into the play-offs and his face adorns the tap of a new ale called HOPE.

Wednesday-mad pub landlord Kevin Woods and his wife Stephanie hope the beer will inspire a victory which would bring Premier League football back to S6 for the first time in 16 years.

Sheffield Wednesday face Yorkshire rivals Hull City for a place in English football’s elite on Saturday – a game worth £170 million to the winner.

The pub’s new ale, a 4.8 per cent pale with an oatmeal finish, has gone down well with Wednesdayite regulars.

“It’s selling well, all the Sheffield Wednesday ales sell well,” Kevin said.

“On match days as quick as they go, they go off again – they’re really popular.

“It’s a clever idea from the brewery. We’re hoping for another speciality ale if Wednesday get over the line on Saturday.”

The Wednesday boss was quick to give his seal of approval after finding out about the beer.

He posted on Twitter: “Sure that beer is good.”

The WAWAW (We’re All Wednesday Aren’t We?) and ‘In Carlos We Trust’ beers are on sale until they run out.

Kevin and Stephanie will be joining the 38,899 army of Wednesdayites marching on Wembley Way on Saturday.

“We’re going down on a coach on Saturday morning. There’s a few of us including some of the staff. We hope it’s going to be a good day,” Kevin said.

“I’m quietly confident of victory but play-off finals are like lotteries. It depends who turns up on the day and I hope it’s Wednesday.”
