A Sheffield pensioner who abused an eight-year-old girl in the 1970s has finally been brought to justice.
David Peacock, aged 69, of Oxted Road, Wincobank, has been jailed for six-and-a-half years after admitting a string of offences against his victim dating back to 1975.
The brave victim came forward to police after admitting what had happened to her to a friend while they were on holiday.
He was arrested in January this year after the woman spoke to police about the ordeal she suffered.
Peacock admitted 12 offences of indecent assault and two of gross indecency with the victim, who was abused between the ages of eight and 17.
Sheffield Crown Court heard Peacock told the girl what he was doing to her was a ‘secret’ and asked her not to tell anyone what was going on.
The victim said her life has been ‘screwed up’, her two marriages failed and her last relationship broke down because of the abuse she suffered at the hands of the defendant.
Clarkson Baptiste, for Peacock, said he now wished to apologise to the victim for the ‘horrors’ she had suffered at his hands.
As well as being jailed Peacock was made subject to a 10-year long Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
