Pete Price, aged 78, is planning on a daredevil cycle ride across Africa later this year all in aid of Macmillan Cancer.

The Richmond ward councillor and his son, Peter Junior, will be joining a group of others and riding 300 miles across Zambia from Lusaka to the Victoria Falls between September 17-26.

He explained: “We will be cycling for five days continuously over a very mixed terrain and through some very remote areas in hot and humid weather conditions.

“It promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge, for me at least, but I am doing this in order to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer relief and while it is tough, it is nothing to what cancer sufferers and their families have to go through and I am sure you will agree with me, it is for an excellent cause.”

He added: “One in three of us will suffer from cancer at some stage of our lives, which means if we do not personally contact the disease, we will know someone very close who has.

“Many of us know from personal experience what a wonderful service the Macmillan Cancer organisation provide.

“All are working towards the day when everyone will have ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer.

“They fund specialist Macmillan nurses, doctors and buildings for cancer treatment and care and give grants for patients in financial difficulties.

“I will never forget the wonderful care and support the Macmillan nurses gave my wife when she was very ill.”

Rob Turner, senior fundraising manager for Sheffield and Chesterfied Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Pete is absolutely incredible in his dedication in continuing dedication to support Macmillan.”

Anyone that would like to sponsor Pete can do so via the website or send a cheque to Macmillan.
