Sheffield musician's research discovers Indian influence in Beatles music

The event is being held this Friday 9 June at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Research led by Sheffield's John Ball, a World Musician in Residence at the University's Department of Music, and Dr Mike Jones, from the University of Liverpool, has led to the discovery of an Indian musician who featured on the album.

Until now, the musican, Buddhadev Kansara, has not been credited for his contribution to the album.

John Ball, who has been in Residence at the University since 2008, said: "This project gives fans of the Beatles as well as students a rare oppurtunity for be part of a Beatles story that has never fully been told."

The concert features stories and images set to show the significance of Indian music to Beatle George Harrison.

The celebration features many surprises, including a performance of an instrument played on the album, and rare images and stories from the recording of the album.

Indian musicians have devised original, Indian music inspired by versions of Beatles songs, and are set to perform these at the concert.

Two musicans who played on the album will be present at the concert.
