Sheffield murder suspect released on bail

A man arrested over a murder in which a man was gunned down on a Sheffield street has been bailed.

The 30-year-old was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder following the death of 23-year-old Assel Al-Essaie, who was shot dead in broad daylight in Daniel Hill, Upperthorpe, on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Al-Essaie had just arrived at a family gathering to celebrate his twin sister's engagement when he was shot in the chest.

He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Police patrols in and around Upperthorpe have been stepped up following the shooting, which detectives say is not being linked to any other gun attacks in the city at this stage.
