Sheffield murder mystery show a hit with audiences

Sheffield College students strutted their stuff during a performance of Redhead The Musical, set in a waxwork museum in London in the 1880s.

They wowed audiences of hundreds of people over four nights between December 6 and 9 at the college’s Hillsborough campus on Livesey Street.

Jo Beadle, drama lecturer at Sheffield College, said before the performance: “This is our big annual Christmas production with a cast of 50 and live band.

“It is an unusual and very entertaining musical with lively songs, excellent dances and a good story line, and provides our students with a great opportunity to develop the skills they need to work in the industry.”

First and second year students from the BTEC extended diploma in performing arts course, and learners completing the higher national diploma in music were involved in the production.

They rehearsed in the £8.8 million Centre for Creative Industries that opened at the Hillsborough campus last year.

They had access to the latest high tech facilities, including a new theatre as well as drama, dance, television, photography, music and radio studios.

The college is looking for new students to start in the September 2017 term.

A college spokesperson said: “Creative industries specialisms offered at the college include art and design, graphic design, games development, media, music, journalism, dance and drama, and photography.

“The college also provides a broad range of university level courses.

“They include honours degrees, foundation degrees, and higher national diplomas and certificates, recognised by universities, employers and professional bodies.
