Sheffield MP Harry Harpham has called on the Government to confirm the date when it will restart work on electrifying the Midland Mainline railway route.
The Labour MP for Hillsborough and Brightside led a debate in the Commons yesterday, following the controversial ‘pause’ on electrifying several routes, including the Mainline between Sheffield and London.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has said work will begin after Network Rail produces plans to reschedule the upgrades.
But Mr Harpham said: “Rumours are already circulating that the Midland Main Line upgrades will be judged too expensive and kicked into the long grass.
“The longer they wait, the more expensive it becomes.”
