Sheffield Heeley MP Meg Munn has been announced as patron of the Sheffield Young Carers Project.

Labour politician Ms Munn has supported the charity over a number of years and recently arranged for Sheffield young carers to meet the Children’s Minister.

Sheffield Young Carers Project offers support, understanding and respite for young carers, some of whom are as young as eight years old.

The charity provides group activities and learning experiences, one-to-one support and residential breaks.

Liz Church, manager of Sheffield Young Carers, said: “Meg has already done so much to support us and I am delighted that she has agreed to become our patron.

“The impact on young carers can be considerable, socially, emotionally, physically and especially on their education. We look forward to continuing our work with Meg to support young carers in Sheffield.”

Ms Munn said: “This is a fantastic charity, which does a great job.”
