The M1 will be closed until 3pm on Sunday (May 13) between junctions 23A and 24 near East Midlands Airport.

The closure will allow work to happen on two projects at the same time - the launching of the Kegworth Bypass bridge and essential bridge waterproofing south of junction 23A.

Throughout the weekend, traffic will be diverted away from the M1 but motorists - particularly those heading to East Midlands Airport - have urged to leave extra time for their journeys.

Drivers heading north will need to leave the M1 at 23A and continue onto the A42 until the Finger Farm roundabout.

They will then need to take the third exit onto the A453 and head towards junction 24 of the M1.

Motorists heading in south will need to take the same route but in reverse.
