Sheffield miracle boy opens Bluebell Wood shop

Three-year-old Harrison Elmer came to Bluebell Wood for end of life care when he was just three weeks old but, to everyone’s amazement, made a miraculous recovery.

The family of the North Anston boy has since raised more than £8,000 for Bluebell Wood.

Harrison, his parents and grandmother were invited to attend and cut the ribbon at the reopening of the Bluebell Wood Hospice shop on Laughton Road in Dinnington.

At the opening, Harrison’s mum Samantha recalled the moment her son fought for his life: “We were told there was nothing more to be done for Harrison and moved to Bluebell Wood to spend our final precious days with him.

“But then the most amazing thing happened. The nurse removed Harrison’s ventilator and he continued breathing. I can’t describe how incredible that moment was; it was the happiest of our lives.”

Today Harrison is a happy and active toddler, who loves cars and planes. His illness has affected him in some ways - he wears a hearing aid and glasses and has cerebral palsy on one side - but his parents say he is an incredibly happy and lovely little boy.

Samantha added: “Everyone who shops, donates or volunteers at the store will be helping our work caring for children and young adults across South Yorkshire with life-shortening and life-threatening conditions.”

The new store’s manager, Hayley Manning, said: “Harrison’s family have been fantastic supporters of Bluebell Wood as they understand just how much every penny raised can help families.”
