Simon Stokes, 40, of Church Lane, Woodhouse, Sheffield, has been jailed for 12 years after admitting multiple child sexual offences.

Simon Stokes, 40, of Church Lane, Woodhouse, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday after earlier entering guilty pleas to nine offences, including multiple counts of sexual activity with a child and producing indecent images of children.

The court heard that Stokes abused his victim, a teenage girl, over a two-year period in Sheffield. In September 2015, police were called and an investigation began.

Stokes’ phone was seized and examined. It was found to contain a number of indecent images of the victim.

Investigating officer detective constable Ashlea Taylor-Jones said: “This inquiry uncovered years of abuse against a vulnerable girl, who was groomed by Stokes for his own sexual gratification.

“His criminality is inexcusable and I am pleased he pleaded guilty, sparing his young victim the distress of going to court for a trial. She has been remarkably brave throughout the investigation and I commend her for the courage she has shown.

“She is now receiving support from our partner agencies.

“I hope today’s result sends a further message that South Yorkshire Police does not tolerate child sexual exploitation and we will do whatever we can to bring offenders of this vile crime before the courts.”
