A Sheffield man has been remanded in custody over the death of a dad-of-two.

Dean Hartley (jnr), aged 29 from Burnaby Crescent, Walkley, has been charged with manslaughter following the death of 33-year-old Rotherham man Karl Swift, who was fatally injured in the West Midlands as he worked away from home.

Mr Swift, from Kimberworth, was found with serious head injuries on the route he would have taken from a pub to his hotel in Halesowen, West Midlands, on September 9.

He worked as a height safety engineer for Aero Installations.

Hartley appeared at Dudley Magistrates' Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on October 27.

Two other Sheffield men, 51-year-old Dean Hartley (snr), of Chaucer Road, Parson Cross, and Lee Ardron, 29, of Broad Inge Crescent, Chapeltown, are due to appear at Walsall Magistrates' Court on November 18 charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
