Ehtisham Hanif, aged 29, was behind the wheel of a BMW which was involved in a collision with a white Honda Civic and a silver Honda Civic between the Strines junction and Ladybower.

His car was said to have been seen 'driving erratically' before the crash, which also claimed the life of 18-year-old Joshua Rosenberg, from Winsford, Cheshire, who was driving the white Honda.

Ehtisham was rushed to the Northern General Hospital but could not be saved, while Joshua died at the scene of the collision, said Derbyshire Police.

Three of Ehtisham's passengers were taken to hospital, two of them with serious injuries.

One of Joshua's passengers was also seriously hurt.

Police said the driver of the silver Honda was also seriously hurt in the crash, which was reported at 9.50pm on Sunday.

A Vauxhall Corsa and a Volkswagen Polo, which were both forced to brake heavily to avoid the crash scene, also collided, but both drivers escaped unharmed.

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101.
