Sheffield man jailed for raping three schoolgirls

Jeffrey Wragg, 69, of Dagnam Place, was convicted of 19 offences, including rape and sexual assault against three schoolgirls, aged between nine and twelve years of age.

Following an eight day trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Wragg was found guilty yesterday and sentenced to 11 years this morning for one count of rape and one of attempted rape.

He was also given sentences ranging from five to six years for 17 other sexual offences; which will run concurrently alongside the 11-year sentence.

The court was told that Wragg would invite the girls round to his house before plying them with sweets, cigarettes and alcohol.

Detective Constable Andrew Charleston, from the Sheffield Safeguarding Adults Team, said: “The conviction and subsequent sentencing of Wragg shows that time is no barrier to justice and I would encourage anyone who may have suffered abuse, irrespective of how long ago that took place, to come forward and contact police.

“These three women have acted with courage and bravery in coming forward and reporting the abuse they suffered a number of years ago.

“I hope that with Wragg now behind bars this will mark the end of a long road to justice and that today’s sentencing will offer these women some sense of closure and allow them to positively move on with their lives.”
