Sheffield man jailed for breaching domestic violence protection order

A Sheffield man has been put behind bars for breaching a domestic violence protection order four times in just two weeks.

Adrian Adnett, of Deer Park Road, Stannington appeared before Sheffield Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday 28 February), charged with breaching his domestic violence protection order (DVPO).

The 31-year-old was sentenced to 28 days in prison, for breaching the order for the fourth time since mid-February.

PC Freddie Le-Billon Payne, investigating, said: “Adnett has repeatedly breached his DVPO and I hope that this sentence serves as a warning to others that breaches of DVPOs are taken extremely seriously.

“Anyone found to be breaching his or her DVPO can and will go to prison if they continue to put someone at risk.

“South Yorkshire Police are absolutely committed to protecting victims of domestic abuse and we will continue to do everything we can to protect vulnerable victims.”

When officers are called to a domestic incident and there is evidence that a perpetrator has been violence towards the victim, and any other associated person, officers can seek to issue a DVPO.

A DVPO gives immediate protection to the victim and anyone else believed to be at risk of domestic violence from the perpetrator.

Under a DVPO, the offender is given specific conditions to adhere to, therefore offering the victim protection from violence.

This in turn allows them some time to consider seeking help or advice from a wide range of support agencies.
