Sheffield man, 25, dies after being hit by train at Meadowhall railway station

A 25-year-old man from Sheffield has died after being struck by a train at Meadowhall railway station, police have confirmed this morning.

British Transport Police said the death of the man is not being treated as suspicious.

An inquest is now due to be opened into the death.

The man was struck shortly before 5pm yesterday, resulting in lines being closed around the station as emergency services dealt with the incident.

It caused several hours of delays to rail services across South Yorkshire.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to Meadowhall railway station yesterday, Tuesday, 16 February at around 4.55pm following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended but a 25-year-old man from the Sheffield area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
