Sheffield lunch club group is seeking volunteers

A NEW lunch club support service has been launched by Voluntary Action Sheffield.

Up to 100 lunch clubs operate in the city for older people giving them a chance to socialise and eat a hot meal.

Every year hundreds of volunteers prepare and cook meals for the city’s older residents and last year the clubs served 77,000 meals to around 2,500 people.

Marie Flude, lunch clubs development officer, said: “VAS is very proud to be taking on this project - these clubs are the unsung heroes of our city.

“Many lunch clubs are run by older people themselves, and I will be helping them with volunteers, training and best practice advice to ensure they are prepared to continue their work for a long time to come.”

The service will allow the clubs to share best practice.

It is looking for volunteers and there are wide range of roles available.

Anyone who would like to get involved should email or ring 0114 253 6698.
