Sheffield litterbugs face court over failure to pay fines

Twenty-five litter louts have appeared in court in Sheffield this month alone after failing to pay fixed penalty fines.

Ten had been caught littering the city from as far afield as Birmingham, Stockport, Leeds, Bradford, Nottingham, Derby, Ilkley, Huddersfield, Liversedge and Grantham.

Two were from Doncaster, one from Rotherham, and the remaining dozen from Sheffield.

Each had been offered the chance to pay a £75 Fixed Penalty fee but declined to do so.

Their fines now stand in some cases as high as £100 with £118 costs, plus a £20 victim surcharge.
