A pub landlord from Sheffield in remission after beating cancer is on his way to raising £20,000 for the hospital where he was treated.

Gareth Williams, aged 39, who runs the Union Hotel in Nether Edge, was diagnosed with testicular cancer and liver, lung and lymph node cancer in 2010 and was treated at Weston Park Hospital.

The dad-of-two, who has been in remission for a year, has already raised £16,500 for the hospital but hopes to reach the £20,000 mark by the end of the month.

He and his wife Sarah are set to host a fancy dress night, charity auction and raffle at their pub on Saturday, November 29.

Gareth has also taken part in the annual ‘Movember’ moustache growing fundraiser since his diagnosis.

He said: “I had all my treatment at the hospital and now that I am in remission I just have to go back once a year for a check-up.

“Raising money is my way of giving something back and I have had lots of support along the way.

“When we set out doing this we never set a target but now that we are so close to £20,000 we hope we reach it.”
