That’s quite a statement given the fact that the Wincobank, Sheffield base has guided the careers of Naseem Hamed, Herol ‘Bomber’ Graham, Ryan Rhodes, Johnny Nelson and Junior Witter over the last 42 years.

But Dominic Ingle, who is training Brook for the showdown on September 10 at London’s 02 Arena, says victory will surpass all previous landmarks.

“I think it has to be seen as the biggest achievement” he said. “Going up two weights (welter to middleweight) and beating the unified world champion would be seen as better than anything else.”

Dom’s father, veteran trainer Brendan has previously always said Johnny Nelson’s ascent was the most remarkable accomplishment in gym history.

“That’s because Johnny came from nowhere, while a fighter like Naz came in at a certain level and was halfway up the mountain very quickly. Johnny came in at below sea-level! But a Kell Brook win, really, is our biggest challenge and will be our greatest achievement.”
