A shop spokesman said: “It is true of replica boards that have been imported from China with poor quality chargers with little or no quality control or assurance through their manufacturing processes [have caught fire].
“All of our boards and chargers have a C.E certificate. Our SWEGWAYs use lithium batteries from renowned manufacture Samsung and thus, is not a issue with our boards.
“Further clarification can be found on our website where everything is clarified and provides a clear difference between our real models and the fake ones out on the market.”
The self-balancing electric scooter doesn’t actually hover, but rolls along on the ground according to how the rider shifts his or her weight.
