27 pictures capture Sheffield honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice this Remembrance Sunday

Sheffield came together to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom

It’s rare to hear absolute silence in Sheffield city centre, but as the clock struck 11am on Sunday, November 8, people across the city came together to observe a two-minute silence for those who have fought for this country.

Crowds filled out Barker’s Pool as wreaths were laid at the foot of Sheffield War Memorial to mark Remembrance Sunday.

MPs, councillors and civic representatives stood on the steps of City Hall as they paid their respects.

Meanwhile representatives from the armed forces and St John’s Ambulance led a march through the square to honour the important services.

Following the playing of the National Anthem, hundreds of people erupted into applause to show their gratitude to the servicemen and women risking their lives for the nation.

Young cadets joined the march from Barker’s Pool to the town hall as the annual service came to a close.
