Sheffcare – the not-for-profit organisation that runs 10 residential care homes in Sheffield – also has a Home Care Services that offers home-based services including befriending, help with personal care, medication support, shopping, household and laundry, support to access social activities, sitting services and overnight support.

The inspection, by the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care, rated the Home Care Service good in all areas, including safety, efficiency, caring, responsiveness and leadership.

Inspectors found people supported by the service and relatives felt safe with their care workers and that staff were respectful.

Interviewees also said the support provided met their needs and the care workers were kind, caring and polite.

Inspectors found systems were in place to make sure people received their medicines safely and staff recruitment procedures were thorough and ensured people’s safety was promoted.

“Staff understood their role and what was expected of them,” the report said.

“They were happy in their work, motivated and proud to work at the service and they were confident in the way the service was managed.

“The support provided was person centred and each person had a support plan that accurately reflected their needs and wishes so that these could be respected.”

Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black said: “Following a year of extremely good reports from the CQC for our ten residential homes, we are truly delighted that the inspectors are equally impressed by the Sheffcare Home Care Services team.

“This is still a relatively new service for Sheffcare but one that recognises the changing nature of care provision as people increasingly want to receive support in their own homes and so maintain their independence.

“To know that we have the full support of the CQC is extremely rewarding for the Home Care Services team as they look forward to extending the service across the city throughout 2016.”
