Sheffield Hatters face top-of-the-table clash

Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters, one of the three teams joint top of the British Womens Basketball League, have a tough trip to one of the others tomorrow.

They are away to Manchester Mystics, who like Hatters and Nottingham Wildcats, have won six of their matches this season, losing the other.

Meanwhile Hatters’ Brittany Winborne has made the WBBL Top Five player of the week.

The Hatters’ powerhouse is proving to be a major player as she continues to improve with every game and her display in Sunday’s 80-50 home win over Oaklands Wolves, was not only the best of the weekend, but the second best of the entire 2016-17 campaign so far.

Winborne cut down Oaklands with a massive double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds, after going 65% from the field.

Helen Naylor also netted 20 points in the win with Georgia Gayle adding 14.

Winborne made a blistering 7-7 shooting start in a 17-point display in the first period.

The Hatters raced into an early 14-0 lead and never looked back with the lead reaching 20 points in the first quarter. A triple from Naylor extended the lead beyond the 30-point mark in the middle of a 13-0 run with the home side in complete control at the break.

Gayle started the second half with back-to-back threes as the onslaught continued, but the Wolves showed fight in the final period to reduce the overall margin.
