Sheffield Hallam University unveils new £30m facility

A new £30 million building has been officially opened at Sheffield Hallam University.

Baroness Doreen Lawrence OBE opened the new Charles Street Building at a ceremony yesterday.

In the heart of Sheffield city centre, it features a concertina-effect walkway designed by Corin Mellor and houses more than 150 academic staff and 5,000 students – making it one of the largest providers of education training and research in the UK.

Baroness Lawrence was joined by Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central, Sir Anthony Seldon, vice chancellor of the Buckingham University, and Professor Nick Hodge.

Baroness Lawrence said: “I’m delighted to have joined so many people from across the education sector in the region to celebrate the opening of this outstanding new resource.”
