STUDENT volunteers from Sheffield Hallam University made Christmas a bit more special for schoolchildren when they hosted a festive party at Students’ Union bar, HUBS.

About 100 children from Monteney Primary School, Parson Cross, and Fox Hill Primary School attended after the party was organised and funded by the students.

The day included Santa’s grotto, bouncy castle and games, as well as transport and catering for the children.

Nicola Taylor, volunteer support worker said: “The children’s Christmas party is a great way for Hallam Students to use their spare time to give something back to the community.

“The children, teachers and parents from the schools always appreciate the effort by the volunteers.

“The team have worked hard planning and fundraising for the party and the project has helped them develop skills required to engage and work with children.”

Jo Scott, a teacher at Monteney, said: “It’s fantastic that the student volunteers make such an effort to make the event so special for the children.”
